So, now that you know where we’re starting from, let me tell you what we’re thinking as far as creating a home. Brian and I (and Chambers) have really been enjoying our house, but over this past year we’ve come to realize that, with its current set up, we really can’t have people over. Well, we can, just not if we want them to do any of the following things:
1. Eat together (our dining room table seats maybe four, but we only have two chairs; there are three stools, but they are too high for the table…).
2. Hang out in one room without having to sit on the floor (you can really only have three people on the couch, maybe four if you squeeze, but then you are all sitting next to each other on the couch – there is no where else to sit in our living room, except the floor).
This is just not the ideal setting for having people over, which is SO SAD because I love to cook and now I have all these pretty plates to use and only Brian to share them with (and I don’t really think he appreciates them as much as I do…).
So, our plan for the house starts with the desire to have people over in mind. The basic things we feel we need to accomplish this is seating for the living room (a sofa and chairs or a sectional) and a larger, more stable dining room table (with at least six matching chairs). This is really easier said that done, though, since there are so many options out there and we don’t have tons to spend…
Overall, our plan is to get some good, solid furniture for the living and dining rooms, then assess where we are. At this point, we can either work on furnishing the master bedroom and/or the third floor bedroom/study OR work on decorating the house. We know it will be a long-term project either way, but it’s fun to think about the possibilities!
